PLANT SCIENCE CAMP AT MEREDITH COLLEGE

June 15-19, 2009

for Middle School Girls

Do you enjoy going outside and learning about nature?  How many plants do you recognize?  What do you understand about the many interesting things plant do?

 

At Meredith's Plant Science Camp, you'll get to:

Work closely with biology faculty and other mentors;

Share and expand your outdoor knowledge with other students your age;

Add to your understanding of plants; and

Experience plant science in a college environment.

 

 

 

WHAT: Explore the wonders of the plant world in the laboratory and outdoors. Your leaders will be Meredith College biology faculty and students. 

Each day will feature fun investigations and hands-on activities to help you learn.

A typical day includes: morning science activity, science arts and crafts activity, afternoon science period, swimming

 

 

WHEN:  Monday through Friday -- 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM June 15-19, 2009.

Extended care - 7:45-8:45 AM and 5:00-6:00 PM is available for a fee.

 

WHERE:  Meredith College Campus, N.C Museum of Natural Sciences, J.C. Raulston Arboretum at N.C. State University.

 

 

WHO:  Any girl currently in sixth through eighth grade is invited to apply for Plant Science camp.

 

HOW:  The deadline for application is April 30.  Selection is based on demonstrated interest in outdoor activities and plant science.  Apply early to be given preference in selection.  Send in the appliction form and a statement explaining why you want to attend Meredith College's Plant Science Camp.

 

 

 

FEES: Tuition for each week is $350 per student.  Scholarships are available.  Fees include lunch, instructional supplies, activites and a Plant Science Camp t-shirt.  Upon acceptance, all registration forms and fees are due by June 1, 2009.

CAMP FACULTY

Janice C. Swab, Professor of Biology, emerita, Meredith College

Dr. Swab earned an MS and PhD in Biology from the University of South Carolina and a BS in Science from Appalachian State University.  She has taught plant science and field courses in several countries to students of all ages.
