Meredith Falls to Maroons
Salem, Va. - The Meredith (7-14, 5-6 USA South) volleyball team traveled to Roanoke College (14-3) for a rematch with the Maroons. The Avenging Angels dropped the match 3-0, losing 25-12, 25-16 and 25-16.
Meredith was led by Morgan White with 12 kills. Sara Elliott had 19 digs and MaryBeth Finegan 27.
Meredith gets a break and will be back in action on October 15 as they travel to N.C. Wesleyan.
Finegan Named USA South Rookie of the Week
Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference released their player of the week awards. MaryBeth Finegan gained Volleyball Rookie of the Week honors.

MaryBeth Finegan, Meredith - The freshman defensive specialist from Chapel Hill, North Carolina helped the Avenging Angels to a 2-1 record last week, all versus Conference opponents, by averaging 6.2 digs/set and 0.4 service aces/set. In a 3-2 win over Peace, Finegan tallied a match-high 38 digs while adding one assist. In a 3-1 victory over Mary Baldwin, Finegan contributed a match-high 19 digs with two service aces. Finally, in a 3-0 loss to Averett, Finegan contributed a team-high 17 digs.

Meredith Volleyball Takes Conference Win, Sets High
Danville, Va. - The Meredith volleyball team (7-14, 5-6 USA South) gained their fifth regular season USA South conference win, an all time high for the team. The Avenging Angels beat Mary Baldwin in the first game of the day, winning 3-1. They then went on to lose to host Averett, 3-0.
In the win over Mary Baldwin, Meredith was led by Morgan White with 17 kills and six digs. MaryBeth Finegan again led Meredith in digs, gaining 19. Ashleigh Vandriesen had two blocks and one block assist to go with seven kills.
Meredith next travels to Salem, Va. in a non-conference match up against Roanoke College on Tuesday.

Meredith Volleyball Outlasts Peace
Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team (6-13, 4-5 USA South) traveled to crosstown rival Peace (9-8, 2-5) on Tuesday night. The Avenging Angels pulled out the five set win, defeating Peace 15-12 in the last set. With the score tied 12-12, Sara Elliott served the last three points in the match. Ashleigh VanDriesen and Laura Sayabouth blocked Peace to move to 13, then Sayabouth had a kill to move to 14. The Avenging Angels took the match with an attack error by the Pacers.
Meredith was led by Morgan White with 20 kills and 18 digs. Elliott added 9 kills, 28 digs and two service aces. MaryBeth Finegan led Meredith in digs with 38 and currently leads the USA South.
Meredith next travels to Danville, Va. to take on Mary Baldwin and host Averett in conference matches.
Meredith Downs Shenandoah
Greensboro, N.C. - Meredith took a conference win downing Shenandoah in the first game of the day, winning 3-0. Morgan White led the way with 12 kills on 22 attempts.
The Avenging Angels then took on host Greensboro in the second game of the day. The Pride won the match 3-0.
Meredith next travels to cross town rival Peace College on Tuesday. Game time is 7 pm.
Meredith Gains First Conference Win Over Methodist
Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball gained their first USA South conference win over Methodist taking the match in five sets. Meredith dropped a hard fought first set 22-25. The Avenging Angels stormed back from a deficit to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 win. Meredith took the third set with a 25-20 victory. The fourth set went to Methodist with a 25-22 win pushing it to a fifth and deciding set. Meredith never trailed in the fifth set winning 16-14 and taking the match.
Meredith was led by Morgan White with 18 kills and two block assists. Lesley Bass was strong at the net with two solo blocks and three block assists. Mallory Booker added 10 kills and 17 digs. Laura Sayabouth had 43 assists and 11 digs. MaryBeth Finegan led the Avenging Angels in digs with 37.
Meredith next travels to Greensboro on Saturday to take on USA South foes Shenandoah and Greensboro College.
Meredith Shows Grit in Win Over Ferrum
Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team played hard in a five set win over conference foe Ferrum. This was the first conference win on the young season.
The Avenging Angels dropped game one in extra points falling 26-28. Meredith stormed back to take games two (25-18) and three (25-22). Ferrum took away game four (23-25) to send it to a fifth set.
In the fifth set, Meredith took the last two points at a 14 all deadlock to earn the win. Mallory Booker had a service ace for the fifteenth point and Morgan White had the kill to finish off the Panthers with the 16-14 win.
Meredith was led by Morgan White with 19 kills and 30 digs. Sara Elliott added 12 kills and 32 digs. Laura Sayabouth had 46 assists and three service aces. Freshman MaryBeth Finegan had a team high 45 digs.
Meredith lost their first match of the day to Christopher Newport in three sets, falling 25-16, 25-10, 25-14. The Avenging Angels head to Staunton, Va. to take on Mary Baldwin and Averett on Sunday.
Meredith Falls in First Conference Match-up
Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team (2-9, 0-1 USA South) started their USA South conference schedule hosting N.C. Wesleyan 7-4 (1-0) falling to the Battling Bishops in four sets.
The Avenging Angels took game one in a battle winning 30-28. Game two and three went quickly, falling to N.C. Wesleyan, 25-14 and 25-10.
In game four, Meredith fought back to tie the game at 15 all. N.C. Wesleyan then took a 17-23 lead until Meredith fought back to tie it at 23 all. The match kept in a see-saw battle until the Battling Bishops pulled out the 27-29 win.
Meredith was led by Morgan White with ten kills and 16 digs. Mallory Booker added nine kills and nine digs.
Meredith next travels to Peace on Saturday for two conference matches against Christopher Newport and Ferrum.
Avenging Angels Take One From Quakers
Greensboro, N.C. - Meredith (2-8) earned a raod win, defeating Guilford (2-11) in four games 25-20, 24-26, 25-18, and 25-23. Mallory Booker led the way for Meredith with 14 kills and 23 digs. Morgan White had 12 kills, 19 digs and four service aces.
In the first match for Meredith on the day, the Avenging Angels fell to Va. Wesleyan 3-1.

Meredith Wins Home Opener
Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith Avenging Angels defeated Cape Fear Community College 3-1, in Meredith's home opener.
Meredith dropped game one 18-25, but stormed back to win the next three 25-15, 25-21, and 25-19. Meredith was led by Morgan White with 17 kills. MaryBeth Finegan added 17 digs and two service aces. Laura Sayabouth added 17 assists.
Meredith next plays in Greensboro against Va. Wesleyan and Guilford on Saturday. The Avenging Angels then return home to host N.C. Wesleyan next Tuesday September 16 at 7 p.m.
Meredith Volleyball Plays in Virginia
Salem, Va. - The Meredith volleyball team took their first of four matches on the weekend at the Roanoke College Tournament. The Avenging Angels beat Randolph in five sets winning 25-19, 26-28, 18-25, 25-19, 15-12. MaryBeth Finegan came up big in Meredith’s win over Randolph. She had six service aces to go with a 17 digs and two kills. Morgan White had 19 kills and one block. Laura Sayabouth added 56 assists and three service aces. Emily Anderson also added seven service aces.
The second match of the day placed Meredith against host school Roanoke. Meredith fell to Roanoke, 17-25, 16-25, 15-25. Sara Eliott led the team in kills with eight and also added two service aces.
On Saturday, the Avenging Angels played Emory and Henry for the second time this season, falling 19-25, 17-25, 13-25. Elliott led the team in kills with nine.
On the last match of the weekend, Meredith lost to Sweet Briar in four, 25-13, 19-25, 12-25, 27-29. Finegan led the team in digs in three of four matches on the weekend with a high of 21 against Sweet Briar. White led the team with 18 kills. Mallory Booker added 12 more kills and Lesley Bass 11.
Meredith next hosts Cape Fear Community College on Wednesday September 10 at 7 pm.
Meredith Volleyball Falls in Opening Matches
Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith Volleyball team started their season, dropping four matches at the Emory & Henry tournament in Emory, Va.
On Friday, the team lost two very close games against Milligan failing in three (26-24, 26-24, 25-18). In the last game of the day, Meredith dropped to UVA-Wise in four, losing (18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21).
Saturday saw the Avenging Angels taking on their first NCAA D-III opponents of the season. Meredith played against host Emory & Henry to start the day, dropping in three sets (26-24, 25-16, 25-17). In Meredith's last contest of the weekend they faced Bridgewater. The Avenging Angels took the third game, but that was not enough, falling in four (25-11, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15).
Laura Sayabouth was named to the All-Tournament team.
Meredith Volleyball Travels to Virginia for Opening Matches
Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith Volleyball team starts the season on the road with four matches at the Emory & Henry tournament in Emory, Va.
The Meredith College volleyball team is expecting great things from its seven veteran players. In 2007, junior outside hitter Morgan White received USA South, team, and North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) honors, slating a .227 hitting percentage with a total of 350 kills. The Avenging Angels will rely on her dynamic presence on the outside again this year. Along with White, the 2008 season will offer another opportunity for great things from senior setter Laura Sayabouth, who led the team in 2007 with 948 assists gaining her USA South, team and NCCSIA honors. USA South Preseason Volleyball Coaches Poll Released
Fayetteville, N.C. - Christopher Newport University, under the direction of Head Coach Lindsay Birch in her seventh-year, was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic Conference volleyball title in 2008. The Captains have captured at least a share of four consecutive regular season crowns. CNU has also won five of the past seven USA South Tournament championships.
Christopher Newport received nine of the ten first place votes (81 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Behind the Captains was Averett University, who collected 66 points. The Cougars were followed by Greensboro College, who finished third with 63 points, and N.C. Wesleyan College which placed fourth with 61 points and the final first place vote. Ferrum College and Methodist University rounded out the top-six with 49 and 40 points, respectively. Meredith was picked to finish ninth in the conference.
The volleyball regular season gets underway on Friday, August 29 as five of the league's ten schools are in action.

Richardson Named Assistant Volleyball Coach
Raleigh, N.C. - Liz Richardson has been named as the assistant volleyball coach. The Rocky Mount, N.C., native will serve on the staff of Coach Fiona Barkley.
Richardson comes to Meredith with a broad background in sports. Her collegiate career included playing volleyball and softball at Peace College. She then transferred to North Carolina State University and served two seasons as a manager for the Wolfpack volleyball program. During her time there she aided coaches and athletic trainers with practice and game administration. She served as an assistant coach for the junior varsity team at Millbrook High School in the 2006 season.
Other athletic experience includes working for the East Carolina University athletic ticket office, North Carolina High School Athletic Association, and the NC State equipment room in Reynolds Coliseum. Richardson also has volunteered in various areas to include the State and Regional Hershey Track and Field Meets, Special Olympics and the Senior State Games.
Richardson is finishing up her Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in Sports Management from East Carolina University. She gained her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University with a concentration in Sports Management and a minor in Business Administration and Coaching Education. Richardson currently works as a Graduate Assistant at East Carolina University teaching physical education classes in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science.
Fall Schedule Released
Raleigh, N.C. – The fall volleyball schedule has been released and the following are some of the highlights.
The Meredith volleyball team will have the first on campus athletic event of the year. They host Cape Fear Community College on September 10 and start their home conference schedule as N.C. Wesleyan comes to town on September 16. Other home matches include Methodist, Christopher Newport, Ferrum, Peace, Shenandoah, and Greensboro.
