Meredith Soccer Clinches Regular Season Championship, Defeats Peace 7-1

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith (14-3-1, 8-1 USA South) soccer team clinched the school’s first ever USA South Athletic Conference Regular Season championship with a 7-1 win over Peace (1-15, 1-8). The Meredith soccer team also co-hosted the pink cancer awareness game at the Meredith Athletic Field and Track.

Kristy Knight led the scoring in the first half, putting in the first four goals for the Avenging Angels. Carrie Talbert added an additional goal to give Meredith the 5-1 lead at the half. Maggie Hart had two assists on the Knight goals.

In the second half, Meredith struck again with a goal from senior Maggie Barilich assisted by Jessie Breazeale. Then Hannah Garrison scored a goal assisted by Barilich.

The Meredith soccer team won the conference tournament last year gaining the 2008 NCAA tournament bid and finished second in the 2008 regular season.

Meredith will be the number one seed in the USA South tournament and will host the number eight seed Ferrum on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The winner will then head to Martinsville, Va. on Friday for the USA South semi-finals.
