First-year students work with a faculty advisor and a student advisor. The student advisor is an upper-class student selected to serve as an assistant to the faculty advisor and as a peer advisor to incoming students. Throughout the advising process, students will meet with these advisors to receive guidance regarding academic choices, to plan course schedules, and to gain support during their first year in college.
Faculty advisors are trained to work with all students regardless of major interests. When students declare a major, they are assigned a major faculty advisor with whom the student works for the remainder of her time at Meredith.
New transfer students are assigned to a faculty advisor in their major area of study who can assist with understanding general education and major requirements, help with course scheduling, and engage in discussions about academic and career goals. Transfer students also work with Transfer Student Ambassadors (TSAs). TSAs upper-class students who help meet the unique needs of transfer students. TSAs also assist new transfer students with orientation, registration, and overall adjustment to Meredith.
While faculty advisors, student advisors, transfer student ambassadors and Academic & Career Planning staff are all available and more than willing to assist students in their planning and academic success, each student is ultimately responsible for her own academic progress.
