Here is some advice from Kathryn Maitrejean, a Truman finalist from 2003/4: On the interview day I got to get to know the other finalists and I saw similar qualities/experience:
- Leadership roles
- Campus involvement
- ***Initiative in starting new programs
- Community involvement (off-campus volunteer etc.)
- Study Abroad in areas that complemented ones major such as International business, International law
- Poise under pressure
- Confident and articulate
- Broad knowledge on global events/dynamics is helpful
- A major in an appropriate field (to work in the civil sector and give back to the community) such as law, politics, journalism, pre-med (towards public health)
- Have a pretty solid career and education plan
- ***And in preparing for it: Have a VERY solid policy. Research materials, know it, understand it and
everything involved.
