Our special programs let students from all backgrounds, in every field, expand their horizons. This is how they work.
Honors Program
An enhanced set of courses, activities and opportunities for outstanding students. Offerings include: specialized course work and advising; independent research projects, including a senior thesis; and invitations to conferences and publications. Also: a program of cultural events featuring local and national artists; lectures and discussions with visiting artists and scholars; and weekend trips exploring social and historical issues.

Study Abroad
A long list of programs spanning the globe—and the curriculum. Recent offerings include: humanities programs in Italy, Switzerland and England; business, child development and interior design programs in Copenhagen, Denmark; programs in science field research in the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Mexico, Australia and Kenya; and a social science program on the Mexican border. Other programs allow students to enroll in universities in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Australia and New Zealand. Students can also work with the Study Abroad Office to find an individualized program and to apply for financial assistance.

Stateside Semesters
Off-campus programs designed for specialized study, offered in conjunction with other schools.
Options include:
- the New York City semester (Marymount Manhattan College);
- the United Nations semester (Drew University);
- the Washington semester (American University); and
- Meredith's Capital City semester in Raleigh.
N.C. Teaching Fellows
A renowned scholarship program for qualified North Carolina resident students who agree to teach in a North Carolina public school for four years following graduation. Includes a seminar series, a program of cultural events and activities, student teacher experience, a mentor teacher program, community service and a required study abroad experience.

Undergraduate Research Program
The Undergraduate Research Program supports collaborative work with faculty across the curriculum; students can also travel to conferences, receive stipends and earn course credit for research. Our annual Celebrating Student Achievement event showcases student work. Recent projects include: "Rhetoric During the English Renaissance"; "Theoretical Molecules in Chemistry" ; "New World Disorder: Global Inequality and Political Violence"; and "Emerging Leadership in Girls and Women."
