Summer in Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Location
Santiago is a small, wonderful city in the northwest of Spain, combining a rich historical heritage with a lively university life. The final destination of the legendary medieval Pilgrims' Way (Camino de Santiago), Santiago is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As a medieval center of cultural, artistic, and commercial exchange, Santiago has preserved for centuries its rich legacy in its churches and architecture, in its streets and squares, and even in its lifestyle. It has been ranked the safest city in Spain. You will enjoy Santiago's open-air markets, outdoor cafes and restaurants, beautiful parks, and the famous university campus. Curriculum
3 intensive language courses totaling to 8 credits in:

plus fulfillment of CORE 200.

*Students in advanced levels may participate in an
independent study of Spanish literature

Accommodations
In order to learn more about Spanish culture, you will stay with local families, all within walking distance of the university. Because the Spanish students will be on campus for their spring semester, there will be a wealth of student activities for you to join.

Academic Programs
3 intensive language courses: (8 credits) plus fulfillment of CORE 200 requirement. Students return to the U.S. on July 16th.

Includes tuition, lodging, cultural events, and all programmed travel within Spain.

Before arriving in Santiago, we spend 3 1/2 days in Madrid where we visit museums and the historical landmarks in the capital of Spain. We also spend two days touring the Pilgrims' Path. Students will also visit Pontevedra, a city with a long maritime and trading tradition that boasts one of the largest and most elegant historic quarters in the whole of Galacia.

Additional Costs:
Airfare (group travel arranged by the Office of International Programs), Passport, ISIC card, health insurance, and personal expenses.

Payments may be divided into two.

Eligibility
Students should have successfully completed at least four semesters of college Spanish or the equivalent. That is, they may have completed four years of good high school studies, plus a Spanish course here at Meredith. 

Students must also be in good academic standing.  (2.0 minimum GPA)

Deadline for Applications: February 1, 2008*
*Late applications may be accepted until program is full. Please try to get applications in as early as possible as this allows the department to take advantage of early airfares.
