Summer in Ireland - Arts Program
During this three-week trip, students will experience first0-hand the arts and histories of Ireland and will have the opportunity to translate those experiences into textual and visual forms.
The trip will start in Dublin, home to almost 40% of the island's population. Studfents will explore the city's museums, theatres and urban architecture. Visits will be made to sites of important historical events.
Participants will then travel south to Kilkenny Castle, the ruins of Mullin's Monastery and Waterford, a city originally settled by Vikings. From Waterford, the group will head west, first to the medieval Rock of Cashel and then to Limerick.
Trips will be made to study the beautiful and rugged terrain of the Cliffs of Mohr and the Burren, culminating in a two-night visit to Inis Mor (one of the Aran Islands) and its magnificent prehistoric forts.
Back on the mainland, students will travel around the coast of Northern Ireland to Derry, Dunluce Castle and th Giant's Causeway. In Belfast, we will examine the historical tensions and see the fascinating beauty of the area's landscape and the transforming nature of its revitalized socioeconomic structure.
