Women's Voices
Perhaps the best people to describe what they’ve gained from attending a women’s college are those with first-hand experience. In celebration of our most recent graduating class, our first featured alumna is Britney Brown, a recent graduate and outgoing president of Meredith’s Student Government Association.

“Meredith College has prepared me well for my future career aspirations. After graduation, I’ll be working for BB&T as a Business Banker through their Leadership Development Program.
My experience in leadership and interactions with Meredith students, faculty and staff made me feel confident when I went on my second interview in Winston-Salem. BB&T was looking for qualified individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong initiative, leadership and sales ability, enthusiasm for a career in financial services and a general knowledge of the financial services industry. My minor in communication, my two years experience interning in the marketing department at Cooper Hand Tools, my position as SGA president, and my major in business administration made me certain that I had the potential to take on this position.
I also had several support systems at Meredith that offered assistance and advice to me as I went through my job search. These support systems included the Career Center, administrators, my advisors and my peers. I was amazed at how many of my past classroom experiences and examples of campus involvement that I was able to relate to questions asked of me during the second interview.
I do think that attending a women's college had some bearing on my experiences because Meredith is invested in the advancement of women – Meredith inspires women to excel and empowers us to overcome the challenges we face as women. For example, I think that in many professions women are rarely present. Therefore, Meredith encourages its students to pursue professions such as science, mathematics, business - ones where women are underrepresented. By focusing on the success of women, students are able to recognize our capabilities and unique qualities as women and grow stronger.
I will take what I have learned at Meredith and carry it with me as I begin my career with BB&T. I know that it will be most beneficial to my success.”
