We’d love to hear what our alumnae think about attending a women’s college. Do you think attending a school for women was different than if you had attended a co-ed institution? How has your experience at Meredith affected your life after college? Write to womenscolleges@meredith.edu and give us your thoughts on the value of a women’s college education.
"Attending an all-women's college was extremely beneficial to me. I constantly tell everyone it was the best time of my life. I was never a great student, especially in math. When I took the math test at Meredith to be placed in a class ... I was sent to the morning 5 days a week course. I earned the best grade in math I had ever earned in my life. I never thought I could do that. The professor made the difference. This was my first semester at MC. In my last semester as a Social Work major, I had to take social work statistics. I went back to my first semester math professor for help. She gladly helped me which I'm sure was not in her job description. All of the MC faculty and staff went above and beyond to help me. My mentor had our group over to his home to eat with his family. I still keep in touch (and see) professors and staff from my work-study job on campus. My immediate supervisor, the department administrative asst, was a second mom to me while I was in college. My mandatory social work internship prepared me for my first job outside of college. My college suite mate and I get together at least once a year if not more. We do not live in the same State. Now that we are both married, the 4 of us get together. Our husbands have to listen to our inside jokes created while at MC (that still make us laugh today). I loved going to class in pajamas because there were no boys to dress up for. It was a four-year slumber party. I was extremely comfortable, confident, and felt the same as everyone else. I also still keep in touch with my Big Sis. We both came to MC from Texas which made us unique in a school full of women from NC, SC, and VA. While in TX (after graduation), I volunteered for the MC Admissions dept attending college fairs and communicating with prospective students. I highly recommend an all-women's college experience for all high school seniors. Best year of my life!"
