Meredith College values the diversity of its community and promotes inclusivity forc students in all of their endeavors. We strive to create an accessible community that ensures that students have equal access to programs and services. Consistent with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Meredith College prohibits the discrimination of students with disabilities and provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations to qualified students with disabilities. Disability Services' Responsibilities Disability Services (DS) is responsible for establishing the eligibility of qualified students with disabilities based on the student's experience and current documentation. Accommodations are determined on an individual, case-by-case basis. We recognize that though two individuals may have the same disability, they may not need the same accommodation. Every student is unique, each with her own distinct gifts, talents, strengths and challenges. DS also connects students with resources that encourage independence and self-advocacy so that that students can accomplish their educational and personal goals. Some of the tools we offer, like our reading technology software, are useful for students with and without disabilities. We’re here to help all of our students reach their greatest potential. Student's Responsibilities In college, students with disabilities are expected to advocate for themselves. Therefore, the responsibility of declaring a disability, requesting accommodations, and filing grievances falls to the student. Individuals seeking reasonable accommodations are responsible for providing DS with current, comprehensive documentation to support the request for reasonable accommodations. Counseling Center/Disability Services Mission
Counseling Center/Disability Services is committed to providing confidential, culturally-competent and evidence-based counseling and disability services to students. Our philosophy encourages students’ empowerment, the development of individual strengths, greater independence, and
self-advocacy.
Counseling Center/Disability Services Learning Outcomes
Students utilizing the Counseling Center/Disability Services will:
- counseling and/or disability services to identify individual goals towards positive change.
- report improvement of presenting problem(s).
- identify and utilize support resources and crisis services
- understand and follow policy and procedures to access counseling and/or disability services
- demonstrate self advocacy with an understanding of their rights and responsibilities
- demonstrate greater independence
Meredith College Faculty/Staff will:
- refer students to the Counseling Center/Disability Services
- provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations as recommended by Disability Services
- consult an partner with the Counseling Center/Disability Services regarding student and community welfare
- promote and maintain an accessible community.

Walk In Hours
We offer consulation and problem solving hours students, faculty and staff every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00. In addition we offer a daily 1:00 crisis hour for students. Faculty/Staff are welcome to use this daily 1:00 hour for questions/consultation about a disability related issue, however a student with a crisis will take priority. Please feel free to use these times to problem solve any issues that may arise involving a student with a disability. Be aware that because of confidentiality issues we are unable to disclose information about a student without the students written consent. If you would like to consult about the details of a particular student we encourage you to seek the consent of the student through an authorization form.
